The man is saying that you can't help what happens sometimes. At schoolies, you act on instinct and as such, act 'Like an animal'. As human beings, we should have self control and control our desires and urges. Sometimes we act like animals, but not always.
Reflection: before acting like an animal, when your human side comes in, you should not only think about the physical, but also the emotions, feelings, thoughts, mentally and spiritually
Something that takes over you like lust can influence you and take over you. Lust promises something that it can't deliver in the end. You need self control. Some strong feelings can over power you, and you shouldnt let it do that
I think that what the author is saying is true, some strong feelings, whether they are lust, envy, anger, guilt or anything at all take over you and can influence you strongly.
